Caterpillar threat for UP crops

August 12, 2008 By: rajarshi Category: India Update, Uttar Pradesh, india No Comments →

Caterpillars have posed a threat to a good harvest in Uttar Pradesh this year. Almost 60-70% crops in the state have been reportedly destroyed by the caterpillars. Most farmers don’t even know what has caused the damage to their crops. Besawar, Nogaon, Jatoi and Garhwali are the worst hit areas. The farmers anticipate traumatic days ahead.

The second largest economy in India after Maharashtra, UP contributes more than 8% to India’s GDP. The government should take immediate steps to improve the situation.
