Chennai to get new cricket ground

Cricket to get more exciting in Chennai!! The city will soon have a new ultra modern cricket stadium for the 2011 World Cup. The new stadium will be bigger than even the Melbourne Cricket Ground and will accommodate around 50,000 to 60,000 spectators. While announcing the move, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) Secretary Kasi Viswanathan said that the cricket stadium will not only make the world cup more exciting but will also be a milestone in the future development of cricket. He said that in addition to the new stadium, some more grounds with advanced facilities will come up for the league and first class matches.

The construction of the new stadium is expected to start soon after the final agreement between the state government and the TNCA. The government has already allotted a 50 acre plot to the TNCA for the stadium. It will be built at Karunkuzhipallam, which is around 25 kms from Chennai. Apart from having state-of-the-art turf and ground facilities, the new stadium will also be weatherproof. It is expected to cost around Rs 100 crore and will be borne jointly by the TNCA and BCCI.

The new stadium in Chennai will indeed prove to be a big step in developing cricket and will be a great thing for cricket lovers.

Chennai Residents to Flaunt New Address Proof Cards

The residents of Chennai will soon flaunt a new identity card which will be issued to them by the City Postal Department. The identity card will be an authentic proof of address of the people residing in the city. At the launching function of the new service held yesterday, Regional Postmaster General M. S. Ramanujam told the media persons that the novel project would help people in the wider context.

According to Mr. Ramanujam, the address proof card would be of great help to the people who pour in the city on job transfer or on job hunt. Most often, it is seen that the new entrants to the city face tough situations when asked to produce an authentic residential proof. The new address proof card would save them from such embarrassments. The residence proof card would be provided to the applicants within 10 days from the date of application.

The address proof card would not be mandatory. It would be issued only to those who opt for the facility. The card would cost the applicants Rs 210. The card would be temper-proof and laminated and there would be a hologram of India Post embossed on it. The validity of the card would be 3 years.

Chennai Gets 4 Cathay Pacific Flights a Week

As part of its rapid expansion plan of flights to and from India, Cathay Pacific Airways launched its services in Chennai, one of the most important business and commercial hubs of the country. The decision to expand services of the carrier in India was taken in view of the aviation agreement signed between India and Hong Kong in December last year.

Cathay Pacific Airways along with its sister airline Dragonair will now serve a total of 35 passenger flights to and from India in a week. Of all these flights the city of Chennai will get the share of 4 flights in a week. New Delhi will serve 14 flights while Mumbai will serve 10 flights a week.

Speaking at the inaugural function in Chennai, the Chief Operating Officer of the airline John Slosar expressed hope that the expanded schedule of the carrier will usher a new dawn in the tourism and trade relations between India and China. With its additional and new services from India, the airline will connect about 120 destinations in Cathay Pacific international network including 20 destinations in Mainland China.
